A Mindfulness-based Approach to Combining Child Centered and Directive Play Therapy Theories and Skills $59

This 2 hour webinar will provide participants an opportunity to learn about how to utilize a mindfulness-based approach to blending, bridging, and weaving together seminal play therapy theories in a way that honors and utilizes a child-centered approach along with more directive and facilitative approaches.

This presentation demonstrates how the research literature supports both non-directive and directive play therapy approaches in helping children heal and grow providing framework and methodology for how to implement both approaches with an emphasis on the essential foundation of the therapeutic alliance between play therapy client and clinician providing play therapy services.

Upon completion of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the theoretical basis, tenets and history of child centered play therapy (CCPT) and the benefits.
  • Describe the theoretical basis, tenets and history of 4 facilitative and/or directive approaches to providing play therapy.
  • Explain the rationale and prescriptive timing within treatment for utilizing pure CCPT and when to introduce facilitative and/or directive play therapy interventions.
  • Describe how and when to blend and bridge directive and non-directive play therapy within sessions.
  • List 10 facilitative and/or directive play therapy interventions and how to implement on the foundation of the tenets of CCPT.

Ms. Wonders has over 30 years of experience teaching mindfulness-based classes as an instructor of meditation, yoga, tai chi, qi gong, and over 20 years as a mental health professional providing counseling to children, families, couples and adults with expertise in human development and relationships. She has been providing continuing education, supervision, consultation, and professional mentoring for mental health professionals since 2010. Ms. Wonders is a certified yoga and meditation instructor, certified Synergetic Play Therapist®, a certified AutPlay® Therapist, and a certified Pure Presence® Practitioner. She is a Gottman Institute trained relationship therapist as well. Ms. Wonders is the published author of numerous books, chapters, and professional articles and has co-edited two academic books that support child and family mental health professionals.

This course is designed for graduate-level pre-licensed and licensed mental health professionals for continuing education purposes.

Access to Course and Materials:

Upon purchase you will have access to any handouts for download and video recording of the course presentation. You will have access to the course material for one year from time of purchase.

Evaluations, Post-test, and Certificates: 

Registrants must submit an evaluation and complete post-test upon course conclusion. Participants must complete and submit both evaluation and post-test with an 80% passing grade within 24 hours of course completion in order to receive CEs and certificate of completion.
