Mindfulness-Based Sensory Exploration in the Playroom $59

This two-hour workshop aims to offer participants practical experience in using mindfulness-based sensory exploration with play therapy clients. It also provides clear guidance on incorporating mindfulness-based sensory play into a therapeutic playroom effectively.

Children have a natural inclination towards sensory-based exploration of sounds, textures, visuals, and smells which helps provide them with increased self awareness. When a child experiences a challenge in their life it is important to help them engage their sensory system safely because their body also experiences the challenge. Children need access different kinds of sensory experiences to help them feel connected to themselves/their body with a trauma informed lens of feeling safe.

This course aims to equip participants with the knowledge and practical tools needed to effectively engage children in play therapy sessions using a wide array of sensory items, including objects, games, sand, water beads, and more. This course aims to empower participants with the knowledge and skills needed to create a more engaging, effective, and therapeutic playroom environment for children through the thoughtful integration of mindfulness-based sensory play techniques.

Upon completion of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify and explain at least three advantages of utilizing mindfulness based sensory play techniques in play therapy.
  • Define interoception and how it is connected to mindful awareness.
  • Identify 5 sensory-based play therapy interventions including but not limited to, objects, games, sand, waterbeads, and other
    sensory tools.
  • Describe 3 trauma informed considerations when integrating a sensory mindfulness play therapy approach.
