This training explores the integration of mindfulness practices within the digital playroom. It offers play therapists and child mental health professionals recognition of authentic, connecting, and healing immersive experiences within the gaming space and a glimpse into mindfulness techniques tailored to the digital environment.


Through experiential learning, participants will deepen their understanding of mindfulness practices tailored to the digital realm, recognizing biases, cultural differences, and the importance of mindful consumption. The training will explore practical strategies for supporting clients' balanced immersion within digital spaces.


By integrating mindfulness into digital play therapy, participants will enhance their ability to facilitate therapeutic connections, promote healthy digital citizenship, and empower clients to navigate the digital landscape with awareness and intentionality.

Upon completion of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Apply mindfulness principles to digital play.
  • Describe awareness of biases and cultural sensitivity within the digital realm to enhance understanding and connection.  
  • Demonstrate practical skills for integrating digital mindfulness into play therapy sessions.
  • Discuss how to support the client's psychological balance through healthy digital citizenship.

Dr. Rachel Altvater (Psy.D., RPT-S™) is an award-winning, pioneering expert, leader, researcher, international trainer, author, and supervisor in the field of play therapy. She is a Licensed Psychologist in Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia, and she holds national certifications as a Registered Play Therapist–Supervisor™ and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. She is the owner of Creative Psychological Health Services, co-owner of North Star Creations, past president of the Maryland/DC Association for Play Therapy, editorial advisory board member for the International Journal of Play Therapy®, and clinical consultant for Hopscotch. Dr. Altvater authored the book Perspective: Contemplating the Complexities of Our Realities, published her research in the International Journal of Play Therapy on technology use in play therapy, and is a contributing author in numerous scholarly texts on implementing digital technologies in play therapy practice.

This course is designed for graduate-level pre-licensed and licensed mental health professionals for continuing education purposes.


Access to Course and Materials:

Upon purchase you will have access to any handouts for download and video recording of the course presentation. You will have access to the course material for one year from time of purchase.


Evaluations, Post-test, and Certificates: 

Registrants must submit an evaluation and complete post-test upon course conclusion. Participants must complete and submit both evaluation and post-test with an 80% passing grade within 24 hours of course completion in order to receive CEs and certificate of completion.
